Nicolas Ortega passed away Sunday October 7, 2018, at the age of 91, he was born November 6, 1926 to Uraldo and Apolonia (Martinez) Ortega in San Marcos, Texas.
Survived by his wife, Estanislada "Tiny" Ortega, eight children Paula, Nicolas Jr. Celia, Delia, Lonny, Millie, Rosalinda and Gilbert, nineteen grandchildren, twenty-four great grandchildren and numerous great-great grandchildren and 1 brother Tomas Ortega.
He is preceded in death by his son Robert and two grandchildren Jimmy Joe and Celia Ann.
Nicolas was a migrant that lost his entire family at a very early age, he not only dreamed the American dream he lived it. He taught himself to read and write the English language by reading the Menard News and the San Angelo Standard Times, became a citizen and three of his grandchildren served honorably in the Armed Forces. Married the love of his life at the age of sixteen and for those who knew him and loved him, he was a man of his word and quick with jokes.
Nicolas Ortega will be missed and remembered. For those whom wish to pay their respect Rosary will be held at Heritage Funeral Home Wednesday evening at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be Thursday October 11, 2018, at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with interment to follow at Garden of Memories.
Pallbearers will be; Freddy Gonzales, David Ortega, Lonny Ortega Jr., Michael Ramon, Aquilas Ortega, and John Horton.
